    Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine operates a small-animal veterinary clinic to serve the needs of the community and to provide an experiential learning environment in clinical medicine and surgery for veterinary students. The clinic provides a broad range of clinical services, including 24-hour emergency coverage, throughout the year.

     

    The Lead Vet Tech/Head Nurse at Ross University Veterinary Clinic (RUVC) will be responsible for providing support for clinicians in the Veterinary Clinic. This role reports to the Clinic Director, is responsible for the management of the team of veterinary technicians and receptionists at RUVC as well as some general administrative responsibilities.

    Responsibilities

    • Perform all regular technician duties depending on the demands of RUVC. (30%)
    • Assist RUVC Director to maintain high standards of primary care surgery, medicine and welfare that meet the requirements of the AAHA accreditation standards. (10%) 
    • Assist RUVC Director with the development and implementation of initiatives in the clinic, to ensure operational efficiency, including the administration of the annual budget setting process. (25%)
    • Oversee training for new recruits, ensure appropriate continued education for more experienced staff, carry out annual performance reviews, and provide development opportunities for all members of the technician and reception teams. (15%)
    • Responsible for the management of technician and reception schedules and for ensuring students are oriented during clinical rotations whilst responding to any related student enquires. (15%)
    • Ensure service excellence, high standards of customer care and resolve non-clinical complaints and payment resolutions. (5%)
    • Other duties as assigned.  

    Qualifications

    •  Certification as a CVT/RVN is required.
    • Minimum of 7 years’ experience working in small animal clinics as a Certified Vet Tech or with equivalent international qualification.
    • Must possess standard technical skills, including but not limited to, animal restraint, catheter placement, blood collection, use of standard diagnostic imaging equipment, use of an I-Stat machine, and diagnostic equipment, such as Doppler, EKG, and multi-function monitors. 
    • A desire to teach and interact with veterinary students is required.
    • Experience of teaching students preferred.
    • Demonstrated leadership qualities and experience required with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a clinical managerial role preferred.
    • Ability to communicate in a corporate and educational setting with excellent interpersonal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
    • Flexibility to work overtime/unsociable hours, including weekends and holidays for the purposes of emergency cover.
    • Capable of using Microsoft Office.
